Last Thursday I completed the first draft of the amendment to the Constitution and all that was left to do was to give it to our Minister, Hon Flores for approval. This morning we got a call at our office from the MHD…the Minister would see us in half an hour. My placement leader and I made our way to the MHD and we met up with the NCA Chairperson. A few minutes later we were sat in Hon Flores’ office.
My host describes the Minister as ‘rootsy’; I think I would say she is ‘rooted’. She is rooted in her faith, in her culture and her heritage. She is also a talented musician and she gave me a copy of song she had written a while ago called ‘Thanksgiving’ which is a very powerful hymn-like song.
After a brief introduction I handed her a copy of the draft – she is very committed to working with/for older persons and she seemed happy with the draft. I toldd her that we needed a letter from the Ministry to the Solicitor General informing him that she had approved the draft and it required urgent attention. She said that should all be done by next week!
I left the meeting feeling very positive and can not wait to hand the draft to the Solicitor General.
