On Friday I received my letter of apology from the person who made this remark. His apology letter was in my view a very a insincere gesture because he clearly states that he has only written the letter because he was requested to do so.
Since the time I made my complaint he has not spoken to me at all even though when I work at the Ministry we sit side by side. The silent treatment is not an issue but it is the other silly side comments that he keeps making that I have a problem with.
It is very clear that in his mind he is the victim in all this and I clearly was the one who overeacted. I am sure he can not understand how or why a woman would dare to tell him that he is wrong and even have the audacity to make a formal complaint. Frankly I could care less about his hurt feelings.
Irrespective of whatever reasons he may give for making his comments I fully believe that every person should practice zero tolerance especially in the work place. Such men thrive on the fact that there are many people who will keep quiet, shrug off the remark, treat as a joke or simply act like it never happened. This then gives such men the impression that it is ok to carry on with their behaviour. Unfortunately for this particualr man he crossed the wrong woman. I do not see why I have to put up with rubbish at work; more so when I have paid to be here; I am working for free; far away from home for the good of his country. I can not make him respect me but I certainly will not put up with him disrepecting me.
I am blessed to have a placement leader who is sensitive to issues relating to sexual harassment because inspite of his apology she is still pushing this matter and has refused to let it lie.
Today or tomorrow I shall write an acknowledgement letter both to the man in question and to the Ministry and I shall point out that he needs to understand that on this occassion I was happy to settle for an apology and I was willing to let the Ministry deal with the matter however should he between now and when I leave try anything like that again I shall take deal with it in the only way that we lawyers know how to – via the civil justice system.
Whoa what a rant and it is only Monday!

Way to go, girl Let him make as much noise as he wants, the important thing is that he will think twice (that is if he is actually capable of thinking) before he thinks of doing the same to another woman.
