Remember way back in the day when I submitted the Consititutional amendment to the Solicitor General for vetting? All that I requested was for him to look through a one and a half page document, and the only change I had made was to insert the three letter word – age. I still have not heard anything despite trips and phonecalls to his Ministry (Attorney General’s Ministry).
Today I decided to just turn up and camp outside his door. I arrived and as usual the secretary told me he was busy. I said I understood that but I needed to see him. She said it would be highly unlikely. I told her as politely as I could that I was leaving in a few days time and the one thing I wanted to achieve before I left Belize was to ensure that the Constitution had been amendment so I was perfectly happy to spend all my time stood in her office. She told me to wait a few minutes and I should be able to see him.
Two minutes later she told me to step into his office and the man did look very busy. He knew why I was there and I didn’t even sit down; he agreed to have it done by the end of the week.
To add to my mini-achievement I got some good news from the National AIDS Commission. After taking them to task re Older Persons and HIV/AIDS the Ambassador called our office and has asked me to attend a meeting they are having on Friday morning in Belize City. From my understanding they are discussing the draft National Policy on HIV and AIDS and would like some contribution from the National Council on Ageing.
