The inscription on the door to the Mines of Moria reads: “Speak, friend and enter�. Gandalf randomly reels off several magic words hoping one will cause the door to open. Frodo is clever and soon understands they are being asked is to speak the word ‘friend’ in Elvish, which is ‘mellon’. It’s a riddle, you see. Perhaps your host understands Elvish:-)
