Comments on: Remembering Brother Shabazz https://beginsathome.com/journal/2005/02/21/remembering-brother-shabazz/ Not Just Junk... Wed, 23 Feb 2005 16:47:42 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 By: Magaidi https://beginsathome.com/journal/2005/02/21/remembering-brother-shabazz/comment-page-1/#comment-2864 Wed, 23 Feb 2005 16:47:42 +0000 http://beginsathome.com/journal/?p=174#comment-2864 ..which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary”

This quote by Malcolm X …ahem!..Brother Shabazz (excerpt taken from Mshairi’s comments by the way), has been taken literally many a times and almost always out of context. While other activists such as MLK Jr. advocated non-violence, didn’t this create a sort of rift between the two schools of thought? As Dr. King saw it, violence only begets more violence. Furthermore bombs and teargas cannisters, riot police batons and whips didn’t and wouldn’t tell the difference between protagonists and innocent civilans in war..they all paid the price. Just pointing out a conflict here…though they all fought on the same principles.

I love this quote from Malcolm X (always spoken out of context in so many instances!)

“We declare our right on this earth…to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary.”
