We do visit Mama and Baba Mich every so often but this weekend was more than just a routine visit. It was a much needed time out\/away from the daily drama that we have been working through over the past three months. I am particularly grateful to Mum 82 and Mshairi<\/a> for making all this possible.<\/p>\n

There is not much to do in Wakefield which was exactly why we went. It was a chilled out, restful, (almost) internet free weekend. These were my highlights:<\/p>\n

Planning Ahead.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mich\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s mum is one of the most organised people I know. She is great at planning ahead and usually has Christmas presents bought and wrapped by October. This weekend though she took \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153be prepared\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2 motto to a whole new level. Mama Mich has two children and ZERO grandchildren but she has already bought baby booties for her future grandchildren. She bought the booties FOUR years ago. <\/p>\n

Moving on up.<\/b><\/p>\n

Nearly all of my family live in the South of England. We live in the North as does Mich\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s family. The South of England has always been considered the wealthiest, more advanced part of England whereas the North is seen as backward. My family in the South love to tease us because we own very few modern household goods. Thanks to Mama and Baba Mich, the Southerners won\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2t have to keep reminding us that \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00cb\u0153nobody watches videos anymore\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac?. Yes\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6they gave us our very own DVD player.<\/p>\n

Diagnosis Hollywood<\/b><\/p>\n

We went to watch Hide and Seek this weekend. The movie was not worth seeing at the cinema. In fact it is not even worth renting on video.<\/p>\n

Most movies are inspired by past films and Hide and Seek is no exception. It was very clear that a lot was borrowed from The Shining and Sixth Sense. Yet instead of taking these ideas as a base and creating a whole new film, Hide and Seek just jumbled everything together, shook it about and gave us 2 hours of disjointed rubbish.<\/p>\n

Perhaps I am being a little harsh. I think it has to do with their portrayal of issues surrounding mental health. According to Hollywood people who suffer from mental health are evil people who eventually go off on a mad killing spree. The only way to deal with them is to shoot them repeatedly until they die. It is no surprise that mental health has such a stigma attached to it.<\/p>\n

Karma<\/b><\/p>\n

This is not a highlight but I thought I should mention it. I seem to have mysteriously injured my right foot. My heel is swollen and I now have a very unsexy hobble. I also have a cold and since Friday my allergies have been worse than ever. I am convinced that this is punishment for my April Fool\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s joke.
