First Impressions<\/b>
\nThe minute I stepped off the plane I was hit by the heat and humidity. I was shocked at how hot the country was. <\/p>\n

Travelling From Airport<\/b>
\nBelize International Airport is about an hours drive away from Belmopan (the capital). Coming from Kenya I had expected that there would be pot-holes and random police checks along the way, thankfully the Belizeans are slightly ahead of us in that department. <\/p>\n

Belmopan<\/b>
\nBelmopan is new capital city; it was built in 1961 after Hurricane Hattie destroyed the then capital Belize City. Most people who live here work for the government. It looks like a big residential estate with a shopping center. It reminds me of South B in Nairobi. Everywhere is within walking distance and there are more bicycles than cars on the road. I am yet to see a traffic jam or even traffic lights. I like this place!<\/p>\n

Work<\/b>
\nIt is probably quite obvious that I have not done much. My placement leader, Ms Jeffery is keen for me to get settled and she also needs time to recover. The phone\/internet situation still continues. BTL did turn up on Friday and decided to install another phone which works, they also installed a DSL jack into the wall. They have not worked on the first phone so that is still an incoming only phone.<\/p>\n

Home<\/b>
\nLife with my host so far has been good. It shall take time to adjust to living in someone else’s house. I miss being able to cook and just do my own thing in my own place. <\/p>\n

People<\/b>
\nMy host is African American, my placement leader is British and initially I had felt that I wasn’t getting the real Belize experience but I realised I actually am. Belize is truly a rainbow nation. Everywhere you walk you will see people of all shades, races, colour and they are all Belizean. Be they Mayan Indian with straight black hair, Garifuna with dark skin and nappy hair, Menonite with white skin, blue eyes and German accents….they are all Belizean. It is amazing <\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/b>
