this post<\/a> the focus was on the response I got from other people with locks (mainly black men), this posting is a follow up but with a difference.<\/p>\nI was making my way to the market for lunch and coming towards me was a white couple, holding hands and looking happy. As they got closer, the man looked up, smiled and did the whole ‘right fist over heart’ salute. <\/p>\n
This man did not have locks, he did not even have long hair and I was not sure how to respond. I knew it could not be the whole ‘so excited to see a black person’ type greeting nor was it a patronising ‘ I am down with your people and your struggle’ greeting. I have experienced both and I can spot them a mile away. It was a genuine, ‘pleased- to- see -you- my sister’ kinda greeting and for once in my life I was speechless. I just nodded and walked off laughing to myself.<\/p>\n
One of the volunteers here has this quote that she likes to use and I think that is the only way I can sum up his greeting to him I was ‘ a sister from a different mister’ and I wish I had hailed him right back with my ‘brother from another mother’ kinda greeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
