I had no plans to travel to Hopkins Village<\/a>. Yes I knew about the ‘other’ Punta Fest and yes I had seen the line up but I was determined to stay in Belmopan and recover. It was about 10 am by the time I reached Belmopand and I decided to get some breakfast in town and then go home and sleep. While having breakfast I had this bright idea to stay away until later on that day so that I could get an early night as opposed to sleeping all day and then staying up all night again. <\/p>\n

Around midday I heard some Punta music playing in the background and I knew I just had to go to Hopkins and dance some more. The last bus was leaving at 3.30pm so I sent a text message to the other volunteers who had stayed behind and told them that I would meet them in Hopkins. This was the best decision I had ever made. The line up at the Hopkins Punta Fest included Andy Palacio<\/a>, Paul Nabor <\/a>and the Honduranian musician Aurelio Martinez<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I had been introduced to all three at the Musuem opening and while I knew Aurelio was huge star; when I met him I was suprised by how shy and reserved he was. I wondered why so many people were crazy about him but I got his autograph nonetheless. Later on that night when I saw him on stage I could not belive that he was the same man I had met. No longer was he shy and reserved! He puntad and sang for more than 2 1\/2 hours and he was amazing. I realised that he barely spoke English – hence his autograph message to me being in Garifuna. <\/p>\n

Initially I had imagined that this Punta Fest would have been exactly like the Dangriga punta fest however on this occassion there were equal amounts of Punta music and Punta Rock music. I did not get back to Belmopan until about 5 am on Sunday morning and after having been awake for 48 hours straight I was completely shattered but I enjoyed every minute of it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
