Initially I thought my task here would be fairly straightforward. I was here to draft an Act for Older Persons and then go back. I now realise that the Act shall be the last document I work on. I need to start with the Constitution and amend the Preamble and Section 16 so that age discrimination is covered. Then there are 13-14 exisiting Acts that need amendments including dull ones that relate to Land and Housing!
I have also discovered that drafting legislation is not like drafting an appeal, there are certain procedures and styles of writing that need to be adhered to. On top of that I have learnt that I need to think less like a lawyer and more like a politician because it is the politicians who have the power to make laws.
The whole day has been spent researching how to draft/amend legislation. I have done one version of what the new Constitution should look like but I am not sure if it is done in the correct style. I found this book on Amazon and I am tempted to set up a wish list because I think it would really help me in what I am doing.
