To all those who stopped by to wish me a Happy Birthday over at MamaJunkYard’s; for the e-card’s and text messages - a big Thank You!
The barbeque was fun; however there was neither a teetotal nor sober camera person in sight so the only photograph worth sharing is the one above.

I have always admired the work of Dennis Hwang. He is the man behind the Google Holiday Doodles. I had so much faith in their holiday logos to the extent that I did not consider a day a holiday unless Google had doodled it.
Today, the day Kenya attained internal self-rule, I expected Google Kenya to be all doodled out in black, green and red. But alas, there was no Madaraka Day Doodle!
So in the true Madaraka spirit, I decided to use the freedom that comes with having access to the Internet to create and share my own Google Doodle!
* I have called this post part 1 because I still plan to do a ‘proper’ Kenyan Bloggers’ Day post (with buttons and all) over at my official blog, Mama JunkYard’s
Happy Madaraka Day.
World Fair Trade Day is an international celebration of Fair Trade internationally, with events organised worldwide. On and around the second Saturday of May every year, IFAT member organisations based in 70 countries, along with Fair Trade shops and networks, host events…to promote Fair Trade and campaign for justice in trade. Fair Trade products from marginalised communities in the majority world, including coffee and tea, clothes, jewellery and beautiful handicrafts will be showcased on this day. Many events continue throughout the month of May. - ( read the rest of this here)
To mark this day here is a photograph of my breakfast. A double espresso mocha made with Percol Espresso Fairtrade Organic Ground coffee.

Another Aonach Mor breakfast, this time smoked haddock and poached eggs. Had it not been for a certain KBW blogger confessing he had a thing for poached eggs, I doubt this picture would have made it to my blog.
Nothing says summer like a glass of Pimm’s No.1 Cup with Lemonade. This particular cocktail consists of:
To make it the proper may, as I am told by an English friend, I need to add the following to the above mixture:
I am not keen on mint but this summer I may just add cucumbers and apples.
This picture is dedicated to “that Mashairi character” (copyright Devious One 2006), Ms. K and anyone else who has expressed an interest in the KBW Pimms Appreciation Society.
Cheers!
I had never been to a casino until the night I took this picture. Though I had not intended to capture a blurry mess I actually like the way the photograph turned out; it is a true representation of how the world looks after a night of merriment.
Former QE2 Chef and proprietor of the Edinburgh guest house Aonach Mor, Ross prepared this yummy breakfast for Mich during our four day holiday in Scotland.
While walking through a park I noticed that a bird had escaped from a nearby aviary and perched on this tree. Determined to get a photograph without disturbing the bird I stood back and zoomed in on what I thought was the bird. Obsessed with getting the right shot I failed to notice that the bird had flown away. It was only after I uploaded the photograph and examined it closely that I realised that I had in fact taken a photograph of two buds.
Lancaster University has a beautiful pond and every spring time for three years Mich and I would feed the ducks. For me, ducks have come to symbolise spring. This particular duck is actually a “Wakey Duck” i.e. it was swimming in a pond in Wakefield. It could be a Lancaster duck. They all look the same to me.
