Keeping It (Too) Real…

Sun 12th September 2004 MamaJunkYard

The BBC programme Crisis Command – Could You Run The Country? has just been aired on BBC 1 and another show is currently being aired BBC 4. The show presents a hypothetical scenario to three contestants who have been given the role of managing the country.

According to the BBC they are bringing us:

cutting edge scenarios worth considering in the 21st century.

While it makes interesting viewing, in light of recent events, I feel that their chosen ‘what if situation’; a hurricane, torrential rain, 30ft waves and tidal surges; was in bad taste.

I agree. Given that many people living here will have family going through this ‘for real’ and that we are seeing events as it happens on the news channels I think that the timing of the program was wrong and it should have been aired at a later date.

Would they have re-scheduled the programme if the majority of the people affected were of a certain colour?
