Week 1-Day 3: Conversation with Mr Flowers

Wed 29th September 2004 MamaJunkYard

I am still spending a lot of time at the Ministry of Human Development (MHD) as we wait for our phone and internet to be connected. We have called Belize Telecom (BTL) everyday and each time they have agreed to get it fixed right away. As yet we can only receive calls.

Mr Dakers arranged for me to meet a man called Mr Flowers who is a retired civil servant. Mr Flowers also works with elderly people through the Sister Cecilia Home for The Elderly. I spent the afternoon talking with Mr Flowers about the issues that affect the elderly and he has given me his views from both the standpoint an elderly Belizean as well as a person who works with the aged. In his view healthcare and legal recognition and protection of the elderly should be the priority.

I enjoyed his company and I shall certainly be meeting up with him again.
