On The Move…

Wed 19th January 2005 MamaJunkYard

Today I am blogging at a cyber cafe in London. A very noisy cyber cafe where children look over your shoulder as you surf. Nightmare…anyway..

I have a lot to blog about…but not enough time. For now I’ll do a short entry which will probably only make sense to Kenyans.

While on the train down from Lancaster a member of the catering staff made a tannoy announcement informing us what they had in stock. Something about the voice over the tannoy told me the speaker was African. Unlike most rail annoucements I have heard – the announcer spoke clearly and articulately. The content of his annoucement was no different from all the others I have heard before. Crisps were on sale, so was tea and coffee and of course customers seated in First Class were entitled to free food and drink. The end of his speech however, shall stay in my mind for a long time. Our announcer concluded with these two words:

“Theng you”

Welcome to London! Sounds like when I heard the aliens speaking Gikuyu in that Stars Wars movie. Nearly jumped out of my seat 🙂
