My host is a member of the Belmopan branch of the National Garifuna Council and every Sunday afternoon she holds Garifuna language classes at her house (she has converted half her house into a school)
This Sunday we (the other Kenyan, another CWW volunteer and I) arrived from Cayo to find that she had cooked us a huge lunch consisting of rice and beans, baked chicken, potato salad and fried plantains. After lunch we joined her Garifuna class and had such a great time.
I can introduce myself in Garifuna and I can tell you the date (unfortunately I can’t spell in Garifuna – yet). I have decided to spend every Sunday afternoon at home so I can learn more Garifuna.
