After the Christmas, New Year and Valentine’s binge I have decided enough is enough. I need to flush out all the toxins from my body, give up all my vices and start looking after me.
I did a detox in 2001 and for about 6 months I ate no meat, drank no alcohol, consumed no caffeine and inhaled no nicotine. The getting started was the hardest but after two days I found it easier and it did make a difference.
This time around I want to try and do it for at least a month and then review the situation. Here is a break down of things that I shall not eat, drink or smoke for the next four weeks.
Meat – Easy. Didn’t eat meat for three years.
Junk Food of any kind
Booze – Thought this may be hard but I have various bottles of booze left over from Christmas and I still haven’t touched it…even the half bottle of Tia Maria is still there.
Silk Cuts – or any other brand of tobacco/nicotine. This shall be the hardest of the lot.
Wheat Products – Out goes the ready in two minutes pasta and the bread.
Dairy Products – This is easy. I don’t like milk anyway.
Caffeine – hmm.. Another tough one. No more double shot espressos for breakfast.
White Rice – that’s out too!
I can however eat as much fruit and vegetables as I want and drink as much herbal tea as I can handle.
To ensure that I have all my vitamins and to aid the cleaning out process I shall take supplements including:
Linseed – This is like bird food but good for you.
Aloe Vera Juice – cleans out the insides.
Spirulina –sea weeds in tablet form
Milk Thistle – restores the liver.
Oh I start all this tomorrow!!
Hey all the best on your detox….ps->Live Strong!
Kui Says: Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement
that narrows down your options to veggies and hmmmmm yup more veggies. ENJOY is all I can say 🙂
Kui Says: LOL there is a lot that can be made from veggies and fruits
I have been on detox and one thing i still can’t get rid of is milk. I love milk and can drink gallons and gallons of milk.
All the best!
Kui Says: How long have you been on detox? What is your detox like? Any tips
Kui,
I am very glad that you made this choice for healthy living. I remember discussing my concerns last year about the booze and nicotine. Know that I wish you the best always.

Kui Says …you see..I do(eventually) listen.
I’ve already started on the ciggies lakini NO MEAT???!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! That one I don’t know if I can. Infact I’m very sure I can’t.
Never thot I could live without milk but there’s no milk in Ghana and I haven’t died from not drinking it.
There’s a lesson there isn’t there?
Eh I have to think about this detox thingy!
Kui Says: Haiya..ebu rudi hapa. Think of Janet “Kanono” Jackson and you will give the meat haraka sana 🙂
Oh and what a cute baby you were Kui!!!!
Kui Says: Thanks 🙂
No need to let all that meat go to waste .. hook me up!
i must add, you are very brave to fanya this…me i’ve been seating at the sidewalks saying i’ll fanya, i’ll fanya wapi..ambia us how it kwendas & thanks for the comment @ my spot..
I have heard about that method of detox. People who have done it say it really works and helps them live better. Back in shaggs i know people have other detoxing methods that are not very cute eg herbal laxatives. I tried it once and lets just say it was not a fun experience. We were in the corn fields all day and I will spare you the details. But you do feel ‘cleansed’ after everything 🙂
I personally have many ‘fond’ memories of the last time we did this. Let the fun and games begin!
LMBAO! Mich sounds like he has been through some things.
good luck Kui, how’s it going so far? Must take lots of self-control to give up your ‘daily pleasures’, I’d like to say I’ll try that some day but…
…I’d rather be toxic and on a happy even keel than healthy and insanely miserable?! 🙁
Ngai WANGUI…ALL THYE BEST…I was all the rage with my detox program in January…did it for 3 weeks, no nice stuff, jus fruits and veg…thot i was gonna die…now am sippin a glass of red wine as i type this and inhaling a well deserved gaf after a tough day in the office….BREAK A LEG GAL
MJ Says: The fact that you called me by my full name has reminded me of how long we have been friends. Thanks girl. I am glad to hear you did the detox, though it must be so much harder in Kenya – how do you resist Tusker?
I have come to another stage in my quest of alternative healthy living practices. I am currently researching cleansing and detox
