While I recognise that at present there maybe no written law that bans smoking in Church but surely it is just one of those things that people in Kenya would never do?
Does anyone know of any church in Kenya where smoking takes place?
there was this one priest I knew – he used to dash off for a smoke in the middle of mass ,during readings or when people were busy in song or during offerings .
I think they are reffering to the church compounds not the churches themselves .
havent heard of any1 smokin in church-so am pullin a dunce blank on that one
but my head of dept usually leaves patient in chair dashes for a puff then comes back-lol.
That blew me away too. Never seen anyone smoke in a house of worship either. Bars? As much as am not a smoker, I find it a little odd to ban smoking in a pub.
I am with you 100% on the smoking churches. Except, that when we find them, I vote we declare them historical sites, and mount movements for their preservation. After all, how many can there be? They are obviously to be cherished and guarded.

LOL @ Holy Smoke! You just couldn’t resist that one could you??!!
Hah-hah I think they were a bit over-enthusiastic when they were writing up that press release for the BBC! They probably discussed amongst themselves: “aah let’s add churches and sports stadia to make it sound like we mean business.”
guys do smoke in church compounds, but i guess what they meant was a church is a public place.

LOL! Must be in the “day long” churches discussed previously! After all, if you are going to keep people in all day, divine inspiration will surely not be achieved within a nicotine deficient body 😉 LOL!

Yes, I know of some Catholic priests who smoke in church (church encompases the church building and compound)

i wish i could attach photos. when i was in kenya in 2002 there was a sign outside my boyhood church that read “INTERDIT DE FUMER ICI NICHT RAUCHER ZONE” – i.e. No Smoking Zone. very amusing, i must say.
let me clarify that there used to be a German morning service at the same church so perhaps it was a targetted message – and this was not a catholic church.
church?? wow! church has really changed since the last time I was home. so do they have ash trays for the convenience of worshippers..just in case the holy ghost gets on you and you have to lay down you rooster for a minute??

Smoking in church? Who in their right mind would do such a thing? Lemme rephrase that, you must not be in your right mind if you’re smoking in church.
